The Santa Maria Valley is nestled in the foothills of Santa Barbara County wine country. Located in the heart of California's Central Coast, it features beautiful scenery, championship golf courses, national theater, bird watching, pristine beaches, performing arts, the world famous Santa Maria Style BBQ, succulent strawberries, nearby missions, hiking, festivals, family events, and award winning wineries located along the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail. All in all, a perfect setting for a perfect bike ride. All proceeds from the Windmill Century, with some withheld for expenses, are given back to our community through our Bike-Give-Away contest held in local elementary schools each year, as well as other bicycle related issues. This year, utilizing last year’s Windmill funds, we held the contest at three Santa Maria elementary schools and gave away a total of twelve bikes, 12 helmets and 12 locks to the Safety Essay winners. The Tailwinds Bicycle Club also contributes to other bicycle related charities such as: efforts to Prevent Distracted Driving; bikes to the local Good Samaritan shelter enabling clients to bike to and from job interviews and/or work; Marian Medical Center’s “Ride to Work” program and the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition. The Tailwinds Bicycle Club of Santa Maria thanks all the sponsors, volunteers and individuals who contributed to the success of this event and especially the riders who came from all over California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada. You are what make this ride a success year after year.

Next years event will be held on July 21, 2012. Mark your calendars and check back for updates.
